Masters Student Position at the University of Calgary

Paleoanthropology Society 03 Gen 2017

Peter Dunfield and Julio Mercader at the University of Calgary Department of Biological Sciences Anthropology and Archaeology have a two-year stipend (minimum $24,0000) available to support a masters student in molecular microbiology starting September 2017.

 

 

Job Description

Theme: Microbial degradation of organic molecules of interest to Archaeology. Project will include DNA-based analysis of microbial communities.

Challenges and barriers to innovation: Understanding long-term preservation and formation of recalcitrant forms of carbohydrates.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Geosciences, Archaeology or related disciplines.

Excellent knowledge of related areas through reading of current literature, online database searching, and attendance of seminars and conferences.

Motivated and organized self-starter, one who can work with minimum supervision

An ability to work supportively in a laboratory environment.

Smooth laboratory operation by assuming a share of group responsibilities, which includes keeping detailed laboratory records and reporting.

An ability to solve problems and push methodological boundaries.

Excellent communication skills in English both written and verbal.
