In the countryside of Romagna and Lunigiana, in Italy, people swallowed a raw snail, taken out of its shell, to cure an ulcer. The remedy survives. There is no evidence that the mucus does anything for the stomach; there is plenty about the parasite a snail can carry.

Nelle campagne di Romagna e di Lunigiana si ingoiava una lumaca cruda, tolta dal guscio, per curare l'ulcera. Il rimedio sopravvive. Della bava sullo stomaco non esiste una prova; del parassita che la lumaca può portare ne esistono molte.
